Plymouth to Falmouth is one change, at Truro. The GWR or CrossCountry train from Plymouth takes 74 minutes to get there with eight stops, and the branch train then runs on to Falmouth Town in another 20. A typical journey on the weekday we checked took just under two hours, and the quickest connections did it in 1h40.
The two rides add up to 94 minutes, so on a typical run you have around twenty minutes at Truro before the Falmouth train leaves. On the best connections that shrinks to about six, which is plenty when the Plymouth train is on time and tight when it is not. If you do miss the branch train, the next one is usually half an hour behind it until early evening, when Truro’s Falmouth departures drop to roughly hourly.
After an early 05:33, there is a Falmouth-bound departure from Plymouth roughly every half hour from 06:40 through to the 15:16. In that stretch you never wait more than 39 minutes for the next one, the longest gap being between the 13:39 and the 14:18.
After 15:16 the gaps stretch to an hour or so: 15:50, 15:56, 16:49, 17:46, 18:21, 19:25, 20:29 and finally 21:17, the last departure on the weekday list that is train all the way to Falmouth. The 21:46 and 22:39 from Plymouth still get you there, but the final stretch from Truro is a bus, and the trip grows to somewhere between 2h20 and 2h35.
By road it is 67 miles via the A38 and A30, about 1h45, so a typical train journey costs you less than ten minutes over driving and spares you the A30. Once you are off at Falmouth Town, Church Street is a twelve-minute walk, 826 metres.
Journey times and changes below come from the rail and bus timetables for Tuesday 1 December 2026. Weekend and holiday timetables differ, so check the day you travel.
